Prof. Dr. Nevzat ÇEVİK
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Çevik was born in Malatya on 13.11.1962. He is originally from Elazığ. Married to Sevilay, he is the father of Ozan and Hazar. In 2003, Çevik became full professor. During his career he has served in various positions e.g. Member of the University Senate, Director of the Social Sciences and Fine Arts Institutes, Head of the Archaeology Department, Founding President of the Museology Department and carried out several other administrative tasks. Prof. Dr. Çevik is the author of numerous books, book chapters, scientific and popular articles. He organised countless symposia, workshops and exhibitions and gives many lectures throughout the year. His life story and research was aired on national television and his excavations were featured in documentary series. He serves as a consultant and editor for documentaries. Interviews and news about Prof. Dr. Çevik frequently appear in the media and he regularly contributes to a variety of newspapers and magazines. In the field of archaeological excavations, he has achieved many firsts in Turkey. He played an important role in promoting archaeology to the public and in raising awareness about conservation. Among the comprehensive projects he has started and led are the Myra and Andriake excavations, Rhodiapolis excavations and archaeological survey, Beydağları archaeological survey, the City of Antalya Archaeological Inventory Project and Trebenna archaeological survey. He was assistant site director of the excavations in Patara and Tlos. Other scientific projects Prof. Dr. Çevik was involved with includes research on Urartian sites in Anatolia. He has made many discoveries and helped design the Andriake Lycia Museum. He has received environmental, scientific, cultural, professional and service awards. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Çevik continues to serve his country, the city of Antalya where he lives, and the public since 1993 when he first came to Akdeniz University Department of Archaeology.
